Access to Other UGC Libraries
Can I use other local university libraries? Can I borrow books from these libraries?
Eligible students and staff can apply for the JULAC card which allows them to use and borrow books from other UGC libraries. Some other students are eligible to use other UGC libraries by showing their student ID card or by applying for a reader's ticket to selected UGC libraries. Staff and students may also be eligible for borrowing books from some UGC libraries through ILLiad or the HKALL services. To find out the details and eligibilities, read this page: http://www.library.ln.edu.hk/cir/cardform2.html
Can I return books borrowed from other UGC libraries using my JULAC card?
Yes. Books borrowed from other UGC libraries using JULAC card can be returned at the Circulation Counter at our Library. This service is available ONLY to books borrowed with the JULAC Card by Lingnan Members from other UGC libraries. Non-book materials are not accepted. In addition, we only accept books that are at least 3 days before due date. Overdue books are not acceptable.
You have to fill in a yellow form titled "Transport Service for Books Borrowed from JULAC Cards" at the Counter for requesting such service.
This service is not applicable to:
- Lingnan members returning items from other UGC libraries they borrowed not using JULAC cards that we issued.
- Lingnan members returning items to other UGC libraries on other people's behalf.
- Non-Lingnan members returning any item to other UGC libraries.
HKALL
What is HKALL? Can I use this service?
HKALL stands for Hong Kong Academic Library Link (香港高校圖書聯網). It was first initiated in Jan 2004 by University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University to accelerate the sharing of library resources among the participant libraries. In Sep 2005, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Institute of Education, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology also join the HKALL. Staff and students of these universities can search the union catalogue, make direct request and have the requested materials delivered to their own libraries.
Read the user's guide for details and find out whether you are eligible for this service.
How many times can I renew a HKALL item?
You can renew a HKALL item twice.
Why can’t I make request from HKALL?
Eligible users can only request up to 5 HKALL and / or Lingnan items at the same time. In other words, if you have already requested for 3 books owned by Lingnan using the regular request channel, you can only make at most 2 more requests through HKALL.
You may also be denied by the system because you have reached your loan quota or blocked for other reasons.
