Room Booking
How can I book a room for self study / group discussion?
You can book an individual study room, a collaborative workroom or a discussion room through the Library's Online Booking System. For reservation rules, please click here for details.
I want to book a room from the Online Booking System but the booking button turned grey. What can I do?
You can go to the Circulation Counter to try to make a walk-in booking.
I find that a room is booked by someone but there is no one in the room. Can I make a walk-in booking?
In this case, please check with the Circulation Counter on the room status first. For Individual Study Room, the room will be released to others if the user does not show up after 1 hour while for Collaborative Workroom & Discussion Room will be released to others if the user does not show up after 15 minutes.
How can I book an individual study room which has a computer inside?
All individual study rooms of the Library are not equipped with computer except individual study rooms B and C, which are reserved for visually-impaired users for special use. You may borrow a notebook computer from the Circulation counter in case you need to use computer in individual study rooms.
Printing
How can I print from the computers at the Library?
Lingnan students can prepay printing deposit for making network printing from the computers at the Library. Please refer to the following web page for details:

In addition, there are six Octopus network printers available in the Library. Printing charge will be deducted directly from your Octopus Card when printing documents. The price for printing is the same as Network Printing.
For non-Lingnan users, a Printing Card valued at HK$30 can be purchased at the Library Circulation Counter. Please note that the card will expire after the stored value is exhausted, or two years after the month of purchase. In case of the latter, the remaining value will not be refunded. Lost card is not replaceable.
Can I make colour printing in the library?
Yes. Colour printing is available in Chiang Chen Information Commons (IC) and the Multimedia & Language Learning Centre (MLLC) of the library. Please refer to the following web page for details:

Where can I add value to my network printing account?
You can add value to your network printing account at the Circulation Counter. You may choose to add $10 / $20 / $30 into your account. Please notice this service would be stopped 30 minutes before the Library closes. During term time when the library closes at 12 midnight, this service would be stopped at 9:20pm.
Photocopying
Can I make photocopies in the Library with my Octopus Card?
Yes, most of the photocopiers inside the Library are operated by the Octopus Card. Eventually, the photocopying cards will be phased out and all photocopiers will be operated by Octopus Cards.
I heard that academic staff can borrow photocopying card in the library. Where can I get this?
Academic staff can borrow a photocopying card at the Circulation Counter by showing the staff card. There are two photocopiers operated by photocopying card on the 2/F of the Library. Please return the card to the Circulation Counter after usage.
Does the library provide Octopus value-adding service?
No. Please go to the student canteen for Octopus value-adding service.
Scanning
Where can I scan in the Library?
Scanners are installed at the Chiang Chen Information Commons on the 1/F, MLLC on the 2/F, and computer areas on the 3/F of the Library. Besides, there is a Colour Octopus Network Scanner at the Information Commons operated by an Octopus Card (please notice that this service is free of charge).
Notebook Computer Issues
What do I need to access the wireless LAN?
Wireless LAN access is available to Lingnan staff and students. To access the wireless LAN, you need a notebook PC with wireless LAN card (IEEE 802.11b or IEEE 802.11g compatible). 6 Wireless LAN cards and 29 notebook PCs with wireless LAN connectivity are also available for loan to Lingnan staff and students. You may borrow them at the Library Circulation Counter (1/F, University Library). Loan terms of the equipment:
- 2 day, overnight loan allowed
- $50 overdue fine per day
Do I need to register before using my own wireless Notebook PC or LAN card on campus?

Why I can't connect to the Lingnan Wireless Service on the on-loan Library Windows XP/ Vista Notebook PCs?
Please check the following steps:
- Connect to Lingnan Wireless LAN (LUWAN1) on Windows XP notebook PCs / Vista notebook PCs.
- Disable Proxy server settings on Windows XP notebook PCs / Vista notebook PCs.
- Connect to the Lingnan Wireless login page on Windows XP notebook PCs / Vista notebook PCs.

Why can’t I request notebook computer from the library catalogue? I often cannot borrow notebooks since they are being borrowed all the time.
Due to the high demand of notebook computer, the function of requesting of such materials is disabled. Please refer to the library catalogue or the Circulation Counter for the availability of notebook computers.
Remote Access to Library Online Resources
How can I use online databases like ProQuest or Wisenews at home?
Access to library subscribed online databases like ProQuest and WiseNews is identified by IP address. You may access these databases remotely via the University's dial-up service or a commercial ISP. If you access these databases via your own ISP, you will be prompted for your Username and Password of your Lingnan email account.
You may also use SSL VPN service provided by ITSC to gain access to library online resources.

How can I watch Local TV Programmes remotely?
For remote access to Local TV Programmes, you would need to use SSL VPN service.
I am a graduate of Lingnan University / JULAC card holder / external borrower card holder. Can I use online databases at home?
Remote access of online databases is available to current Lingnan staff and students only due to licensing restrictions. For graduates / JULAC card holders / external borrower card holders, you have to come to the Library to use the online databases and other electronic resources.
